Christie Michelle Scott

In July, a jury found Scott guilty of three counts of capital murder for setting a fire in her home that killed her six-year-old son, Mason. Seven of the jurors in the case recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole. However, Judge Terry Dempsey said in his ruling the child’s death was more heinous, atrocious and cruel than many other capital cases and ordered Scott to die.

Tierra Gobble

Tierra killed her four-month-old son, Phoenix Cody Parrish.  Gobble’s two children had been removed from her and father Samuel David Hunter's care after a Florida child welfare agency found abuse and neglect.  Gobble’s "great uncle" took in Parrish and was instructed not to leave the state or allow any contact between the infant and his parents.  The great-uncle violated both of these instructions by moving to Alabama and allowing Gobble to move in with him.  Gobble admitted to hitting Parrish’s head on the side of his crib because Parrish would not stop crying.

Shonda Johnson

Johnson was convicted in 1999 of the shooting death of Randy McCullar in a church parking lot in rural Walker County on Nov. 30, 1997. The capital murder charge involved killing a person who had been a grand jury witness. Testimony at the trial showed that Johnson was still married to McCullar when she married William Howard McIntyre Jr. in 1995 and when she married Tim Richards in 1997. McCullar testified before a grand jury and got Johnson prosecuted for bigamy. He also filed for divorce and custody of their child three weeks before he was killed.
